Noise Conference UTM Skudai

Noise induced hearing loss (NIHL) had become a major problem in all employment sector. In 2015, SOCSO had recorded 392 hearing impairment caused by noise cases in various industries sector. The number of infected workers is high because the common techniques that were used in most industries are by using PPE and through administrative control only. This technique is found to be less efficient in conserving hearing of workers. Furthermore, higher order of hierarchy such as elimination and substitution is difficult to be used in controlling noise at source.

The main purpose of this conference is to discuss about applying higher order of hierarchy in reducing noise at source by using prevention through design (PtD) concept. PtD encompasses all of the efforts to anticipate and design out hazards to workers in facilities, work methods and operations, processes, equipment, tools, products, new technologies, and the organization of work. The focus of PtD is on workers who execute the design to support designing out hazards, hazards, the most reliable and effective type of prevention. Moreover, PtD can be practiced at all levels of the hierarchy of controls, but it is most efficient as the means to eliminate hazards. Besides, the residual noise after using this concept can be effectively control by using administration strategy and the usage of PPE.

The participation of SI Acoustic Sdn Bhd to enhance the knowledge sharing between different economic sector in conserving hearing and reducing noise at source.
